The Boeing 737-800 of Ukraine’s International Airlines (UIA) caught fire and crashed a few minutes after taking off from Tehran Airport early on January 8. All 176 people on board died, most of them were citizens of Iran and Canada.

Iranian authorities said the plane was shot down by accident. The cause of the crash was called the “human factor.” Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif explained that the mistake was made in the crisis period because of the “adventurism” of the United States.

In response to a statement from the Iranian authorities, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky demanded that Tehran fully admit guilt in the crash of the Boeing 737-800. In addition, he said that Ukraine is waiting for Iran to formally apologize, punish those responsible and pay compensation.
