Dharamshala, India: A group of Chinese Buddhists and followers of Dalai Lama from mainland China sought His Holiness’ spiritual advice on ways to contain the spread of Coronavirus (2019-nCoV), a recently discovered airborne disease.

In response, Dalai Lama told them that chanting Tara mantra as much as possible could help contain the spread of the epidemic. He noted that Buddhists should recite the Tara mantra as often as possible to avoid becoming infected with a deadly infection. It is believed that a certain sequence of sounds and words while reading a mantra can have a beneficial effect on a person.

Dalai Lama has also shared a Soundcloud clip of his Tara mantra. The mantra that can, according to Dalai Lama, fight Coronavirus goes like this – Oṃ tāre tuttāre ture svāhā . However, Dalai Lamas’ advice is based on the Buddhist traditional beliefs and is aimed at Buddhist believers only.

Regarding this health crisis, Kalon Ven Karma Gelek Yuthok, from the Ministry of Religion and Culture, expressed his condolences for those who had died from the disease while hoping for “the Chinese people and government’s ability in controlling it soon”.

He cited the “reported link between the large scale-wildlife trade in China and the rise of the epidemic” and “the necessity to study the underlying causes of this health crisis” while wishing the Chinese speedy resolution to the crisis.
